In a horrifying new incident being reported out of Texas, a 2-year-old boy suffered fatal injuries after being mauled by a pit bull.  The worst part seems to be that the pit bull’s owner watched the attack from his doorway, and did absolutely nothing to stop it.

The 2-year-old child was playing with his sisters outside his home in the town of Sabinal in Texas.  The girl blew a little balloon, and threw it for her younger brother.  The balloon drifted into the neighbor’s yard.  The neighbor’s pit bull was playing in the yard.  The little boy ran after the balloon into the yard, where it came across the dog.

The pit bull pounced on the little boy. By the time the toddler’s family members rushed to the scene, the boy had suffered severe injuries, and was no longer breathing.   An autopsy showed that the boy had suffered severe puncture wounds all over his body, including his stomach.  He also had bites all over his body, including arms and neck.  He had lost a lot of blood.

According to the boy’s father, the little girl had seen somebody in the neighbor’s house, open the door, watch the pit bull attack the toddler, and then simply close the door and walk off inside.

The pit bull is under quarantine, and tests are currently being performed on the boy’s body.  So far, it is not clear what action will be taken against the owner of the pit bull.

Recently, the dog bite lawyers at our firm blogged about a decision by Farmers Insurance to withdraw dog bite insurance for pit bulls, Rottweilers, and Wolf hybrids in California.  The decision was made in response to statistics that clearly show that pit bulls are responsible for a majority of dog bites that take place inside the United States.
