A Riverside woman recently suffered serious injuries in a dog bite incident that occurred while she was walking her dog. The woman is currently recovering from those injuries.

According to news reports, the woman was walking her dog when she was attacked by two pit bulls. The two animals had escaped from a fenced- in yard, where they had been confined. While the property had a Beware of Dogs sign posted on it, there was obviously not enough protection to reduce the risk of the dogs escaping from the yard, and injuring someone.

The owner of the dog has already handed over the dogs to be euthanized. The woman has been seriously injured, and has had part of her cheek ripped out. She has also suffered serious arm injuries, and open wounds. The woman’s dog did not sustain injuries.

This incident like so many other dog bite-related incidents involving pit bulls in California is also likely to once again trigger debate about the advisability of keeping aggressive breeds like pit bulls. Pit bulls are involved in an inordinate number of dog bite incidents in California, and no dog bite lawyer would disagree with this fact. However, it isn’t fair to blame the animal because these are animals that are by nature more aggressive, and you can’t blame the dog for its nature.

However, many people who keep pit bulls as pets have no idea about how these drugs must be treated. They have little knowledge of the need for dog socialization, training, frequent exercise and other aspects of responsible dog ownership. The result is incidents like these, where a pit bull which has been confined in a tiny yard, escapes and attacks the first person it comes across.
